Join us as a Data Engineering Summer Intern for an immersive 11-week experience where innovation, collaboration, and real-world impact intersect. As part of our dynamic Technology, Data, AI & Ventures department, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge projects that drive our digital transformation, while exploring potential career paths in Data Engineering, Governance and more. 

 

Throughout the summer, you’ll deepen your technical skills, expand your professional network, and receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals and senior leaders. Our program combines meaningful project work with learning and development opportunities designed to prepare you for success beyond graduation. 

 

You’ll connect with a diverse cohort of interns, collaborate on a team-based capstone project, and contribute to our commitment to social good by participating in our Volunteer for Good initiative. Whether you're building innovative solutions, leveraging AI and automation, or reimagining the future of work, you’ll play a vital role in helping us shape what’s next in technology.

Team: Data 

 

The Data team at New York Life encompasses various functions, including analytics engineering, data strategy and governance, platforms and integrations, and data ingestion and pipelines. This team plays a critical role in building scalable data solutions that support the company’s strategic objectives. 

 

Interns will take on an internship focusing on one of three key areas:

 

Data Engineering & Infrastructure: Work on building scalable data pipelines, automating data processes, enhancing data quality frameworks, and supporting cloud infrastructure projects. Focus on AWS automation, data warehousing, workflow optimization, and operationalizing data tools to create efficient data processing and transformation systems. 

 

Data Strategy & Governance: Improve data management and governance using cutting-edge tools like ML, LLMs, NLP, and GPTs to refine data curation, enhance data quality, and drive efficiency across the organization's data ecosystem. 

 

Platform Integration & APIs:   Enhance integration platforms by developing APIs, optimizing search utilities, streamlining DevOps processes, and building connections between various data systems and business applications. 

 

What You'll Bring: 

 

Data Engineering & Infrastructure: Deep interest in building scalable data solutions, process automation, cloud infrastructure, and creating robust data frameworks that support enterprise-wide analytics. 

 

Data Strategy & Governance : Interest in data management, governance practices, and applying cutting-edge AI/ML and NLP tools to solve complex data challenges. 

 

Platform Integration & APIs: Strong problem-solving skills with interest in system integrations, API development, semantic search capabilities, and connecting diverse technology platforms. 

 

Required Skills: 

 

Data Engineering & Infrastructure:  Undergraduate or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Software Engineering. Proficiency in Python, SQL, and understanding of data warehousing principles. Experience with AWS, dbt, DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, Terraform), Glue, PostgreSQL, and Informatica Data Management Cloud preferred. 

 

Data Strategy & Governance:   Undergraduate or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Proficiency in Python, Machine Learning, SQL, and NLP tools. Experience with data governance frameworks and AI/ML applications preferred. 

 

Platform Integration & APIs:   Undergraduate or Graduate student pursuing a  degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Software Engineering. Proficiency in Python, platform architecture, API development, and system integration patterns. Experience with search optimization and DevOps processes preferred.

Salary range: $30-35/hour + $3,000 housing stipend
