Shah Trading Company is a leading food processing and distribution company dedicated to delivering high-quality products to customers across North America. We are looking for a tech-savvy Cost Accountant with around 3 years of experience to support our Controller and Finance team. This is a great opportunity for a motivated professional eager to grow in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Job Overview

As a Cost Accountant , you will report directly to the Controller, this role will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, preparing reconciliations, supervising accounts payable, analyzing expenses, and performing cost and inventory analysis. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in Excel and data reporting , able to transform financial data into clear, actionable insights for management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounts Payable Review & Supervision
    • Oversee the day-to-day AP function, including import payments and domestic AP, ensuring invoices are accurately coded, approved, and paid on time.
    • Review vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in coordination with internal departments and suppliers.
    • Support process improvements to streamline AP workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Monthly Bank Reconciliations
    • Prepare and complete monthly reconciliations.
    • Investigate and resolve variances, outstanding items, and unusual transactions.
    • Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Expense Analysis & Reporting
    • Analyze company expenses by department, category, and project to identify spending trends.
    • Prepare clear, insightful Excel reports for management, turning raw data into actionable information.
    • Provide recommendations on potential cost-saving opportunities and budget control.
  • Inventory & Selling Price Cost Analysis
    • Track and evaluate inventory costs, product margins, and variances between standard and actual costs.
    • Maintain and update selling price structures in Excel to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
    • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to assess cost drivers and profitability of products.
  • Payroll Processing
    • Assist in preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with employment standards.
    • Reconcile payroll reports, deductions, and benefits.
    • Provide support during payroll audits and maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Excel & Data Reporting Expertise
    • Build, maintain, and automate Excel-based models and dashboards to support decision-making.
    • Use advanced functions (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, charts) to provide visibility into KPIs.
    • Present findings in a way that is accessible and useful for both finance and non-finance managers.
  • Financial Reporting & Special Projects
    • Support the Controller with month-end and year-end closing activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
    • Contribute to ad hoc analysis and financial projects, especially those requiring strong Excel and data analysis.
    • Assist in ERP/reporting tool upgrades and optimizations.
Qualifications
  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience : Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting or similar.
  • Technical Skills :
    • Strong proficiency with Excel and ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central experience is a plus).
    • Comfortable with financial analysis, reporting, and data visualization tools.
  • Soft Skills :
    • Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn.
