Chronicle Books is seeking a Publicist based in either San Francisco (preferred) or New York City to develop and implement publicity campaigns across its dynamic publishing categories—including Food & Wine, Art, Entertainment, and Lifestyle. This role is ideal for a creative, proactive, and organized individual with strong media relationships, excellent writing and pitching skills, and a passion for storytelling that drives discoverability and sales. The Publicist will collaborate closely with authors, agents, media contacts, internal publishing groups, and marketing and sales teams to elevate the visibility of Chronicle’s distinctive publishing program.
Key Responsibilities: The person in this role will pitch and secure coverage in print/broadcast/online media, build and maintain strong relationships with media, influencers, booksellers, and event programmers, and research and develop relationships with new outlets for possible coverage. They will write compelling press materials, execute author tours, attend publishing group and marketing meetings, monitor and report on campaign performance and track and share sales trends and media momentum for assigned titles. The Publicist will also serve as a representative of Chronicle Books at author events, trade shows, and conferences as needed.
Qualifications: Applicants will need a minimum of four years of experience in publicity, preferably in book publishing, lifestyle media, or related fields. They will need to have existing relationships with national media and key cookbook outlets, proven abilities to secure high-impact national and regional media coverage, demonstrated experience planning and executing author tours and media events, and strong written and verbal communication skills with exemplary copywriting ability. In addition, applicants will have a solid understanding of the media landscape, the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines with precision, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with Muck Rack or other media databases. We are looking for a self-starter with excellent organizational and collaborative skills who will demonstrate a passion for illustrated publishing and Chronicle’s core categories.
Hiring Salary Range: $68,000 - $78,200. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Benefits: Chronicle Books offers a full suite of benefits, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k, a profit share plan, three weeks of paid vacation to start, two weeks of sick time per year, and company holidays, including a paid winter break between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, paid family, maternity, and paternity leave, commuter benefits, long-term disability insurance, annual tuition assistance, annual wellness stipend, and more.
Schedule: Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our San Francisco office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs.
